Over 35 Years of Experience
Southampton Yacht Services was formed in 1980 and quickly became established as one of the major refit yards in Europe, completing major refits and restoration works on a number of the large classic sailing and motor yachts such as Altair, Thendara, Ticonderoga, and Belle Aventure which set the tone for modern restoration projects. Then followed such illustrious yachts as Ilona of Kylesku and Merrymaid which further showcased the traditional joinery and shipwright skills on hand in the yard.
Classic and Modern Refit
In addition to tending to traditional yachts, such as the rebuild of J Class Velsheda, SYS has refitted and built modern vessels including power yacht interior fit outs on Caneli and Waterlily, steam engine refits on Windsor Belle and modern racing machines such as Marie Cha III, Leopard 3 and Sojana.
The purpose-built facility at Saxon Wharf comprises two build halls, one hall capable of taking up to five 27m yachts in a controlled environment and the second build hall is capable of taking yachts up to 40m. Further buildings house a saw mill, joinery shop, finishing shops, engineering and electrician shops and design offices. A 200 ton travelift serves the site allowing for yachts up to 40m to be easily handled ashore and the yard area is stressed to allow for special crane lifts.
